Aging seniors and the disabled have a right, spelled out in the U.S. Supreme Court's Olmstead decision of 1999, to enjoy care services in the least-restrictive environment possible. Oftentimes, that means at home rather than in a nursing home.
Avenue HomeCare, a privately held professional homecare agency that focuses on providing a wide array of nursing services, owes a lot of it’s success to CEO and current Administrator Serena Brock. Brock’s leadership is also felt outside of Charlotte, where she shares her expertise as a nationally-recognized speaker and advocate of homecare needs. Brock can often be found speaking for the Private Duty Nursing Care Association (PDHCA), where she is known as a strong activist for the rights of patients, constantly pushing for better ethics within her industry. She even counsels other agency owners on the need for unification and agency licensing. Brock leads the Mecklenburg Guardian ad Litem program.
